, virginia, has about 4,500 customers in the dark. bge reports nearly 3,000 outages. the majority of those are in anne arundel county. those storms brought down trees and power lines in bethesda. wires fell about 1:30 this afternoon. the neighbors there say they saw the wires on fire after a tree fell. a car was damaged there but nobody was injured. >>> a whole lot of rain fell quickly causing flooding in frederick. roads turned into rivers during the height of the storm. some kids got stuck walking in water up to their knees. some parts of frederick saw between two and four inches of rain. on days like these, people live in the bloomingdale neighborhood in d.c. aren't taking any chances. they're doing anything they can to prevent flooding. a problem they've had to deal with several times already this year. jackie benson has more on how residents are trying to keep things dry and when a real solution to the problem might be ready to go. >> reporter: there is a lot of anxiety here. people are still dealing with insurance claims from multiple floods. their d.c. councilmembers say they've wai

washington, much of northern virginia and western maryland. they are going to stay wet here throughout the entire day. all of this coming from a front that's producing all this rain that's moving in and advancing, getting a little bit heavier now just southeast of charleston, west virginia. that's now moving into the far southeastern portions of west virginia. that's going to eventually move into the southern shenandoah valley in about another two hours or so, and then closer to the metro area, that looks like that's going to happen around 3:00 this afternoon. ahead of that, we've got mild and muggy air. temperatures around 70 degrees much of the region. hour by hour by 7:00 a.m., still cloudy. rain west of the metro area. a few scattered sprinkles around the immediate metro area. we'll be hovering near 70. some of those showers beginning to move in. then quickly after that, by 3:00 or so, we could have some of those storms producing those damaging winds that might bring down power lines and tree limbs. unfortunately, that risk extends into this evening. your first 4 traffic now with d

virginia through west virginia as well and into the western carolinas. this is all moving eastward. as it continues to strengthen through the rest of the morning and into this afternoon, we are actually going to see the potential for a possible severe weather outbreak. right now, though, we're looking at a lot of the lightning across the panhandle of florida. this is all going to continue to move to the north and east. pretty slowly. and the heaviest of the rain is now trying to move into areas across new jersey, stretching back into west virginia too. this rain, again, is going to continue to stream in from the south with lightning possible along with wind gusts up to 40 to 50 miles per hour. this area in bright yellow here, that's an area we could get reports of wind damage and also the possibility for isolated tornadoes. we look for that into this afternoon and evening as well. as we go through the rest of the night, we will start to see this push eastward. we will see some improvements as cooler air tries to work in through the rest of the week, lynn? >> dylan, thanks so much.
